At first it looked simple: a small section of siding near the dryer vent had started to rot. We figured we’d just replace a couple of boards and be done. Once we opened the wall, it was clear the problem went much deeper. The dryer vent connection was damaged, so hot, moist air had been blowing straight into the wall for a long time instead of outside. The insulation was completely soaked and ruined. The OSB was damaged by moisture, and part of the framing had started to rot. We had to open up the whole affected area, remove everything that was compromised, rebuild the framing and sheathing, install new insulation, and close it back up with new siding. From the outside it now looks like nothing ever happened. But the important part is that we found and fixed the actual source of the moisture — not just covered the hole with new siding. If the siding near your dryer vent feels soft, looks darker, or is starting to peel, it’s better to check it sooner rather than later. Sometimes you only see a little damage on the outside while there’s already serious trouble behind the wall.
“From ‘oh shit!’ To better than new. Working with Dimitri and Eugene was great. When other contractors turned me down for an estimate because the job wasn’t big enough, Eugene didn’t hesitate to get back to me right away. The job ended up bigger than we anticipated (dryer vent that wasn’t venting properly and ended up pumping humid air into a wall and rotting out the wood). But Dimitri was able to identify the problem, reinforce the vent so it’s stronger than new, and secure the wall and window to be completely water tight. Definitely gave us peace of mind! This crew was more informal than some GCs I’ve worked with – recommend following up via email to ensure clear expectations… and then everything ran smoothly and on schedule. Thx guys!! Will for sure reach out for future projects.”
